The Dance Excellence Program is specifically designed to provide talented students with the opportunity to pursue more intensive dance training and performance opportunities, with a higher emphasis on technique and artistry. Selection for this program is by an annual dance audition, held at the end of Term 3, and students are chosen for displaying exceptional potential and ability.  This program is capped in numbers.  The Dance Excellence team continues to train with the Dance Extension students and they are then offered an additional two hours of training within the Excellence Program. All classes and rehearsals are conducted within school hours.  At the conclusion of the program students will have acquired a high level of training in various styles and genres of dance, as well as developing a greater artistic, technical and performance understanding.  It will provide a training pathway for students to continue into secondary education and beyond.  These outcomes align with the Australian Curriculum – The Arts: Dance (ACADAM010, ACADAM011).

Students will receive weekly training in various genres of dance, including Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Ballet.  Guest teachers and choreographers are also invited into the school to work with our Excellence students.

Students enjoy the same performance opportunities as the Dance Extension Program with additional dance eisteddfod opportunities throughout the year and other specialised school events.  Dance Excellence students also enjoy the benefits of our annual Dance Camp.  Students are also exposed to live performances at The Queensland Performing Arts Complex, experiencing dance from professional, national companies.

It is important to be aware that the Dance Extension and Dance Excellence Programs are not intended to replace an out of school dance program that your child may already be enrolled in. They are designed as an additional class to compliment and extend a primary school dance program, and supplement the training that dance students receive from their community dance schools and teachers.
