What is Dance at Eatons Hill State School?
Eatons Hill State School is pleased to be able to offer our students three specialised dance programs, created to cater to all student interests and abilities.  They are:  Curriculum Dance Program, Dance Extension Program and the Dance Excellence Program.  Each program is uniquely designed to share the joy of dance and movement in a safe, inclusive and fun learning environment.  The school boasts state of the art dance facilities including proper dance flooring (tarkett) and a purpose built dance studio featuring a sprung floor.

About our Dance teachers
Melissa Wilcox and Megan Anderson share a wealth of collective dance knowledge. Melissa celebrates 30 years as a dance educator in primary and secondary schools and has had many successes training students for Dance competitions and festivals.  Megan has had an extensive career as a professional dancer with national and international ballet and contemporary dance companies before coming to teach in schools. Megan was also an Education Ambassador for the Queensland Ballet in 2019.

Dance Programs
Curriculum Dance
Our specialist Curriculum Dance program at EHSS sees students from P-6 engage in weekly half-hour dance lessons, aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Over four terms, our students have the opportunity to learn performance, choreographic and response skills through a program specifically tailored to our learners/students. A special highlight of our school calendar is our Performing Arts Gala Days, where all students enjoy the opportunity of performing onstage for family, friends and whole school community.

Dance Extension Program
The Dance Extension Program is for those students particularly interested in and displaying a high ability in dance.  The purpose of this program is to further our students’ introduction to dance in a fun and safe environment.  The program will extend all students in dance performance, continue to develop dance technique, and offer extended performance opportunities.  These outcomes align with the Australian Curriculum – The Arts: Dance (ACADAM010, ACADAM011).

Students are chosen for this program from their weekly Curriculum Dance lessons.  This is a highly popular program and is capped at a maximum of 37 students.  The Dance Extension Program entails one weekly rehearsal over the four terms of the school year.  One hour lessons are offered before school in either the Clyde Campbell Hall, or the ‘Studio’, both customized spaces designed for dance.

Performance opportunities include our inclusion in the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge, Eatons Hill State School SPACE Carnival, The Albany Creek State High School Dance Showcase, Eatons Hill SS Dance Night, Performing Arts Gala Days and various school functions and events.  Students also benefit from our annual two-day Dance Camp, an intensive day camp held on campus during the school term.
