Eatons Hill State School (EHSS), is fortunate to have a Defence School Mentor (DSM).
The DSM monitors the social, emotional and academic needs of Australian Defence Force children at EHSS. They assist students in class who may need additional support and ensure that they settle in once arriving at EHSS. There are limited DSM positions located throughout Australia, so the appointment of one to Eatons Hill State School is significant.
The DSM provides support to children, members and their families, particularly during their transition into and out of school on positing. The DSM helps all defence children and their families at the school should they seek or require assistance. The Australian Defence Force funds a DSM to help the families and students at EHSS settle into their new surroundings. The DSM is not a teacher but a member of the school team. The position was created as it was recognised that some children experience difficulties academically and socially each time they move school.
